Artist Bio

Barbara van Buskirk was born in Pittsburgh and raised about 25 miles north of the city in the small town of Mars, Pennsylvania. She earned a B.A. in Sociology at Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and a M.S. in Mass Communications at Boston University. Van Buskirk’s professional art career began 18 years ago in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she began making and exhibiting monotypes at New Grounds Print Workshop, a group studio, before opening her own studio. Since 2013, she has been printing monotypes at The Button Factory in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and working in her small home studio. Van Buskirk also paints, designs collages, draws and writes. Musically, she plays piano in addition to strumming the ukulele and singing in regular get togethers with a small group of friends.

Barbara van Buskirk and her husband David Panek live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Her work is in private collections throughout the United States as well as in the public collection of the College of Santa Fe.
