So many ESCs and Chickies + a new drawing

Last Saturday, a dear friend asked if I would make an ESC for his 81-year-old aunt who has macular degeneration and a chickie for his 7-year-old great niece who is head over heels in love with chickens. I made his aunt’s ESC as well as two chickies (to keep each other company). Our friend and his sister will drive up to northeast Maine a week from tomorrow to visit their family and hand deliver this little flock to their new homes. I am a little amazed I knit, seamed and stuffed all three of these feathered cuties in one week, feeling purely at play and delighted with how they turned out.

The need for Emotional Support Chickens and Emotional Support Chickies keeps growing. I knit my first ESC in January of this year and, as of today, I have knit nine Emotional Support Chickens and seven Emotional Support Chickies with two more ESC requests yet to knit. Both of these patterns were designed by Annette Corsino of The Knitting Tree, L.A. and are available at Ravelry.com.

Meanwhile my whimsical drawing series keeps growing as well. I now have a handful of characters which I enjoy drawing, over and over, with Hildy Pickle, pictured above, being my favorite and most-often-drawn character. My first whimsical drawing was completed in June of 2023. Yesterday’s finished whimsical drawing is my 37th and counting!

It is heartening to know, even when the world feels like a waking nightmare, we can find a bit of joy and fun through our creativity. Lucky us. Practice. Practice. Practice.
